”The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.” – Proverbs 9:10

FOR CHILDREN & YOUTH

Sunday School takes place at 9:15 AM on Sundays, between the two morning services, from Fall through Spring. After gathering to collect offerings and practice singing for upcoming worship services, students break into several groups based on their school grade level to pray, study, and grow in their knowledge of God’s Word. From September-November, the children learn different stories from the Old Testament, and from December-May, the focus is on the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus. These stories are the same ones used in worship, so that the children have the opportunity to tie their learning in with the services.

Vacation Bible School takes place in late June/early July. Each day, the children participate in lessons, singing, and activities, culminating in a presentation for the children’s families and ice cream social on Thursday night. 105 children took part in St. Luke’s 2011 program, “Big Jungle Adventure”. Check back in the Spring for information on next year’s VBS, “Amazing Desert Journey”.

Confirmation classes are taught by the Pastor for youth in grades 6-8. The sixth grade students cover Biblical history from Creation through Pentecost. The seventh and eighth grade students study the Christian Faith using Luther’s Small Catechism. Class times are arranged by the Pastor in consultation with the parents. Students in the Confirmation program also take part in activities and service projects throughout the year.

FOR ADULTS

We offer several Bible Study opportunities throughout the year. Pastor Jim leads a study of the book of Acts on Sundays at 9:30 AM (8:30 AM from June-August). A Ladies Bible Study, led by Priscilla Keurulainen, is held on one Saturday each month at 9:00 AM from Fall-Spring. We are currently assembling several groups to meet in homes starting in the Spring – we’ll announce the topics, dates, and locations as soon as they are available. Please join us!

Pastor’s Classes make up an introductory course for prospective adult members of the church with a look at the Christian Faith (think ‘Christianity 101’). Taking between ten and twelve weeks depending on questions and discussion, the course covers a wide range of topics, including Church History and Lutheranism. Please speak with Pastor Jim to find out when the next set of classes will begin.

If you would like more information, please contact Pastor Jim Butler.
